William 'Bill' Edward Ryan

William “Bill” Edward Ryan, 81, of Lambertville, MI, died Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Kingston Care Center in Sylvania, OH. Born December 29, 1936, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of John Patrick and Augusta (Frier) Ryan. He married Marsha Farison on November 10, 1962 and they enjoyed a wonderful 49 years of marriage until her death in January of 2001. Bill graduated high school from Mt. Carmel in Chicago, IL. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army for 2 years and after he was recruited to play football at The University of Toledo, where he received his Bachelor’s of Education Degree. He then attended Eastern Michigan University to attain a Masters in Administration. Bill spent the majority of his career at Summerfield Elementary as a school principal for 29 years. He was equally proud of both schools… forever a Bulldog and Go Rockets! Bill was a true sports fan. He enjoyed being a member of The Varsity “T” Club, where he joined his old teammates as season pass holders for both basketball and football. In his free time, Bill loved playing tennis at Shadow Valley and spending time with his grandchildren and making memories with his family, “The O’Briens”, in Chicago, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Gray) Ryan; children, Coleen (David) Lenhart, Bill (Nicole) Ryan; grandchildren, Sydney (Scott) Sherman, Mallory, Kylee, Grace, Carter and Jack; Stepchildren, Kelly, Kevin (Natalie) Carver; step-grandchildren, Max and Jack Carver, and his beloved cat, O’Bee.
Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Thursday, December 20, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Friday, December 21, 2018, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Fr. Stephen Rooney, officiating. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kingston Care Center for the care given to Bill. Memorials may be made to the Music and Arts Program at Summerfield Elementary or the Alzheimer’s Association.
